Pianist, harpsichordist, and organist Martin Smutný studied piano at the Pardubice Conservatory with Jana Turková and Jaroslava Pěchočová. At the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava Martin studied with Ivo Kahánek and attended various masterclasses with pianists as Jan Jiraský, Jiří Skovajsa, Miroslav Langer, Boris Krajný, Ivan Kláský and harpsichordists Giedré Lukšaité–Mrázková, Petra Žďárská, Filip Dvořák, Ilona Růčková, among others.
As a soloist Martin has performed with Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice, Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava and Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc. Since 2012, as a permanent member of the Ensemble Damian, he performed at prestigious festivals as Smetana’s Litomyšl, Prague Opera, Petr Dvorský's International Music Festival, Baroko Olomouc, Schrattenbach Opera to name but a few. Martin has successfully performed the premiere performance of Josef Antonín Štěpán's harpsichord concerto.
He is also dedicated chamber musician (eg. Trio Aperto, Musica Excelsia, Motus Harmonicus) and accompanist (having collaborated with Kristýna Vylíčilová, Barbora Polášková, Jiří Přibyl, and others). Martin has been a piano teacher at "Žerotín" Art School Olomouc since 2011, and an external member of the Faculty of Education of Palacký University since 2019.
